used in Resource (Learning Center) or general education, depending on need of individual student
According to researchers of Special Education needs, every school should have a T-stool. This stool is ideal for balance training, motor planning and vestibular orientation. Works well with children experiencing motor delays and neurological processing disorders. Teachers will notice children's attention span and participation increase with this balance challenge. No data using the Tstool (recommended by the Occupational Therapists in the district) has been performed in the Learning Center at Truckee Elementary to date.
T-stools for students in Resource K-3T-Stools are the tool of choice when working with individuals on balance reactions, trunk control, sensory integration responses, focused attention and proprioceptive responses. T-Stools are height adjustable to fit a range or users and are made from institutional quality wood, durable and long lasting steel for ongoing use. T-Stools have been used in occupational therapy for students who have little to no core strength and therefore are unable to sit calmly or quietly in the classroom. A child who is working to refine balance responses would benefit from using a T-Stool while doing seat work at school. Research shows that a child who does not typically keep his feet on the floor and has difficult attending to teacher instruction or sustained seatwork tasks might benefit from using the T-stool as an alternative to a regular chair. The benefits of a T-stool for students who exhibit focus and attention issues is to maintain balance; the child needs to keep their feet on the floor in order for balance to occur. Use of a T stool facilitates this grounded position. As with therapy balls, the child's posture would be monitored . This stool keeps kids grounded, their focus and attention is enhanced and learning can take place.
