Math Magazines
Cross curricular reading comprehension, math problem solving practice and review for all sixth grade standards
About every 4 weeks, we receive another math issue for each student in the class. We use them in class as one of our math centers, and since they also contain review standards, students can review concepts learned earlier in the year.
Resistant math students are usually much more willing to attempt math problems found in these fun magazines that feature current topics and middle school role models than to do problems straight out of a math textbook.
Scholastic Math Magazine subscription Nice way to review math concepts taught each month in a fun way.Integration of reading comprehension with math skills
The other two 6th grade teachers in my PLC are also getting scholastic magazine subsciptions so we can collaborate on how to best use this resource.
