Ideal Gas Law Apparatus
The Ideal Gas Law apparatus will allow the students to discover the relationships between pressure, temperature and volume in gases.
The apparatus will be used during the study of gases in Advanced Chemistry and in AP Chemistry. Laboratory experiments will be written which incorporate the use of the Ideal Gas Law apparatus as well as complement the curriculum.
Laboratory results from each lab group will be analyzed by the students as well as the instructor.
Ideal gas laws are studied at all levels of chemistry. This probe will allow all lab groups in chemistry to discover the relationships between volume, temperature and pressure of gases.
The California State Chemistry Standards include a section on gases and their properties. Standard 4c states: Students know how to apply the gas laws to relations between the pressure, temperature, and volume of any amount of an ideal gas or any mixture of ideal gases. While 4h states: Students know how to solve problems by using the ideal gas law in the form PV = nRT. The apparatus will allow the study of gases to be more hands-on.
